Holidays with extended family can be a very challenging time for the dedicated raw foodist. You might end up surrounded by all sorts of heavily cooked foods, cheese, sugary sweets, baked breads, cookies, candy, cakes, pies, and processed foods of every kind. If you are lucky there might be one raw salad available. And everyone at the table might look at you like you are crazy when you pile your plate with salad only. I actually had one family member say to me: Why are you wasting your appetite on green salad? His plate was piled high with pastas and sausage. In such a situation the raw foodist has 2 distinct options: 1) Give in to the pressure of family and unnatural cravings and just eat the holiday food. 2) Participate in the food preparation. Bring a wonderful array of raw dishes to share with everyone. You'll have lot's to eat for yourself and your family will be wowed with how good raw can taste. Actions to avoid: Don't argue with family about food choices. Don't try to fiercely defend your eating habits either. You will come across as a fanatic. Let them enjoy their holiday the way they please. Just share your raw dishes and knowledge kindly, compassionately and from your heart. Does anyone else have raw holiday stories and tips?
